GILES SHEPHERD

Biography:

Giles Shepherd (he/him) is an interdisciplinary designer who grew
up in South Africa, before moving to Denmark as a teenager. He
invites you into a world of his creation, pointing out interesting
moments, a place he loved to swim as a child, the year he moved country,
what he wore yesterday.
In this way he explores the contexts of who he was and where he’s
from by holding it up against his happenings in the now.
Strong currents of interest guide you through his world, eddying
often at pools of body, water, garment. What interests
him most is the space between things, how it widens and closes as
the context around it and us shifts. He observes closely the standard
practices of daily life, and proposes his works as subversions of them,
offering back queered mirrors reflecting these standards in their own
mediums.
With the ability to both, pick things up (skills, crafts, techniques)
and pick up on things (emotions, contexts, stories) quickly, he
uses his own experiences and realities to question and expose the
undercurrents of everyday interaction and object. Exposing how
and asking why societies constructs constrain and define their own
members.
